Trades & Rumours:
From Spectorshockey.net:
- Anaheim Ducks GM Brian Burke denies he might have interest in Mats Sundin if he should decide to return by mid-season. “No,” Burke said. “That’s someone else’s fantasy.”
- John Vogl reports there are several ways to view forward Maxim Afinogenov playing on the Sabres top line; either to showcase him, bolster his confidence or that’s where they feel he belongs. The Sabres tried unsuccessfully to trade Afinogenov this summer following a disappointing 2007-08 performance but he said he’s trying not to think about the trade rumors or how long he might be with the Sabres.
- Ed Willes reports the Canucks won’t be able to land Marian Gaborik this season but given their need for offensive depth they could be keeping an eye on his contract situation with the Minnesota Wild. Willes suggests the Canucks might be willing to overpay to sign him.
